Privacy

We collect as little as a reader can. Most of Nur lives only on your phone or computer.

On this device

Settings, bookmarks, last-read, learning ticks, the welcome flag, and the optional offline mushaf are stored in this browser (localStorage and IndexedDB). Clearing site data deletes them. We cannot see them.

Location

Prayer times need coordinates. If you allow location, the browser gives them to this page and they stay here. If you refuse, we ask a geolocation service (currently BigDataCloud) for a city from your IP so the timetable has a place. We do not store a history of where you were.

Sign in

Signing in is optional. If you do, the host of this Nur instance keeps an account record (email or the method you chose) so your session can return. Passwords are handled by the auth service, not written in our pages.

Third parties the app calls

Quran text and translations: alquran.cloud. Word roots: public morphology data. Hadith: the public hadith-api collections. Recitation: islamic.network / EveryAyah. Those services see the requests your device makes (which surah, which reciter). They are not Nur.

How the site is used

After you open a page, Nur counts the section (Quran, library, Learn), whether it was a phone or a computer, and the site the visitor came from. No cookies. No name. No ayah number. No words typed in search. Browsers that send Do Not Track are not counted. Totals sit on Insights. We do not use Google Analytics or advertising pixels.

What we do not do

We do not sell reading lists. We do not run advertising trackers. We do not ask for your contacts.

Scan to open Nur on your phone

iOS notes

Open Nur in Safari — not inside X, Instagram, or Gmail.
Tap the Share button (square with an arrow up).
Scroll the sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
Name it Nur. The eight-point star sits with your apps and opens full-screen.
iPad: same steps in Safari. Split View and Stage Manager keep Nur in its own pane.
Chrome or Firefox on iPhone still use Safari’s engine — add from Safari so the icon is clean.
Nur is not on the App Store yet. If a banner says “Cannot add”, update iOS and try Safari again.
