Your first seven days

A quiet week: the Shahada, wudu, the five prayers, Al-Fatiha, the last three surahs, and one hadith. This is a first map, in plain English. Nur will not give rulings.

  1. Day 1

    The Shahada

    Islam begins with a witness, said with the tongue and meant in the heart. There is no secret formula. These are the words.

    أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ

    I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

  2. Day 2

    Wudu

    Prayer needs a wash. The Quran names the limbs. Schools differ on small details. Start with this, then learn the practice of the people you pray with.

    1. Begin with the name of Allah, and an intention in the heart.
    2. Wash the face.
    3. Wash the arms to the elbows.
    4. Wipe the head.
    5. Wash the feet to the ankles.
    6. Keep the water modest — a mudd is enough.

  3. Day 3

    The five prayers

    Nur already shows Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha from your city. Today, learn their names and stand for one of them. Al-Fatiha is what you will recite.

    1. Fajr — before sunrise.
    2. Dhuhr — after the sun has passed its height.
    3. Asr — in the afternoon.
    4. Maghrib — after sunset.
    5. Isha — at night.

  4. Day 4

    Al-Fatiha

    Seven ayahs. You will say them in every rakah. Open the surah, and listen once with Husary.

  5. Day 5

    The last three surahs

    Ikhlas, Falaq, and Nas are short. Muslims recite them often for refuge and for tawhid. Learn them as a set.

  6. Day 6

    One hadith

    The Prophet ﷺ praised those who learn the Quran and teach it. Open the report, then look at its book and number in the library.

  7. Day 7

    How to walk Nur

    You now have a map. Translation is Saheeh International until you ask for another. Tafsir sits under each ayah. Bookmarks keep a verse. Prayer times follow your city. Come back tomorrow.

    1. Search a surah by name or number.
    2. Open Tafsir only when you want commentary.
    3. Save a verse, then continue from Learn.
